Conscious that the arrival of tourists increases emergency calls to the Red Cross, the Hotel Matilda, one of the most prestigious hotels in Centro, gave the San Miguel de Allende chapter of the emergency services organization some big help with its fundraising drive this year—a check for 50,000 pesos.

Red Cross San Miguel de Allende President Leticia Fernandez de Loyola said that the organization has so far collected 89,201 pesos. However, she is optimistic there will be more by the fund drive’s end.

“There are still many [donation] cans to open,” she said. “We have to coordinate ourselves. They must be opened in the presence of the president, the coordinator for collection of funds, or the treasurer. I feel that the amount will double.”

The chapter’s fundraising goal this year is 800,000 pesos.

Coordinator for Collection of Funds Teri Kavanagh voiced her appreciation for the sensitivity that the members of Hotel Matilda have displayed each year it has donated. She invited more hotels, restaurants, and businesses to open their hearts and wallets to allow the Red Cross to have healthy finances so it is ready to respond to any call for help.
