A Gathering of Friends Raises Money for Guadiana Park
By Jesús Aguado
Guadiana residents threw a very special party last week—one to preserve the beauty of their neighborhood park.
A group of residents have been dedicated to Parque Guadiana’s welfare since 2014. Last week’s event, thrown at the home of a Guadiana resident, raised money for maintenance of the park’s trees, which are threatened by disease.
When the group formed in 2014, the park was in disarray. Now the park stays clean and green all year long, despite the fact that it’s used daily, including by many dog owners. The park now features well-kept landscaping, tended-to plantings, and trash cans for users to easily dispose of their garbage.
The park is maintained by the neighbors themselves as well as city workers. Some neighbors go out themselves to garden, while some send their staff.
In hopes of raising as much money as possible, the neighbor who offered their house also offered margaritas and food to make the fundraising event a true fiesta.
The party, which featured a spacious garden, Mexican music, drinks, and tacos al pastor, was a close-knit affair, with most attendees familiar with each other. A silent art auction helped raise some of the necessary funds.
After hours of music, laughter, and socializing, organizers assured attendees as they left that in amongst all the good times, they had helped their community.
