The local DIF (Family Integral Development Department) recently organized a fashion show to benefit children from the community of San Jerónimo de la Playa in need of basic classroom supplies.

DIF President Susana Chauvet told Atención that when the organization made a visit to this rural community, the mothers there asked DIF not just to restore their school classroom but also to buy materials, specifically books, notebooks, Play-Doh, blackboards, and other items to enrich their children’s daily school experience.

In response, the organization teamed up with the Vinícola Toyán vineyard and the Sindashi fashion house to put together a fashion show at the vineyard and raise 30,000 pesos for the community’s school.

At this March 20 event, Sindashi presented its Spring 2019 fashion collection. Models of all ages walked down the runway wearing blouses, dresses, and capes. Some pieces were also sold at the event, and money from the sales went to the cause.

Before the fashion show, a priestess held an ancestral ceremony in one of the vineyard’s gardens. There, she invited attendants to raise their hands to the sky, release old energy, and recharge their bodies with new energy. She also invited them to be one with the sun, the earth, and the water.

According to Chauvet, DIF welcomes any additional donations for the San Jerónimo de la Playa project. DIF is located on the corner of calles Insurgentes and San Antonio Abad. Donors can earmark their donations for the school.
