JAKE

By Marie Abercrombie, Henry Flores, and Jake

Hey there.  It’s me, Jake, the funny rescue dog again. I’m coming to you from Casa Hogar with my pal and boy leader, Leonel.

Life only gets better here. Leonel is supposed to keep me on a leash at all times, but I beg him with my big, sad eyes to let me run free with the other boys—I love it when they squeal and laugh and run after me;  it is so much fun!

However, I know better and so does Leonel; we need to put safety first. So I get the leash and slowly bring it to Leonel—we know how important this is.

Anyway, remember Leonel’s interview with Henry Flores from last week? Well, here is mine. Enjoy!

Henry Flores (our dog whisper): Hi Jake. It’s been a while since Toby and I have seen you. How have you been?

Jake: I have been doing great! But I feel even better now that I’ve seen my old pal Toby! I do get lonely for doggie company. But I have plenty of kids to keep me happy.

Henry Flores: And how do you feel about your training so far?

Jake: Well, I feel bad for Leonel sometimes!

Henry Flores: Why is that?

Jake: Because he is trying so hard and he is so patient with me, and I feel I let him down when I lose my concentration! But that darn butterfly is always coming around at the worst times. Plus, there is just so much going on around me. But I’m really trying hard! I like to see Leonel smiling. Plus, when I’m good, he gives me treats! Yummy! I loves me some treats!

Henry Flores: Well, keep up the good work, and Toby and I will be back to visit with you and Leonel.

Jake: Oh boy! I can hardly wait. Hopefully I will be doing so much better. I really have grown to love Leonel and want him to be proud of me.

Henry Flores: He loves you also, and I’m sure he will miss you greatly once you graduate.

Jake: What do you mean?

Henry Flores: (to himself): Oops! I should have left well enough alone. Time to end this interview and make a hasty retreat!
