Gypsy Music Artist Bartok Lataretu Returns to the Biblioteca
By John Miller
Once again, the Santa Ana Theater is pleased to present the great gypsy artist Bartok Lataretu, whose unmistakable interpretation of gypsy art has captivated the most demanding of audiences in Latin America and Europe and has positioned him as one of the most important Rom musicians today.
Safeguarding gyspy tradition in the face of modernity, in what he describes in his own words as “a challenge for the new generations of gypsies,” Lataretu has collaborated with great musicians like maestro George Miller, director of the highly successful Sony Music ensemble Embrujo Flamenco, whose albums Guitarras Virtuosas and Lo Mejor de Guitarras Virtuosas have remained in first place for 10 weeks at major music-store chains like Tower Records and México’s Mixup. Lataretu has also appeared alongside guitarists like Paco de Lucía, Al Di Meola, John McLaughlin, and Manolo Sanlucar at events such as The Guerrero International Guitar Festival, The Flower Fair in France, the Paiz International Festival in Guatemala, The La Guitarra en el Mundo Festival in Bolivia, and the International Festival of Puerto Rico.
