Escape to the Country: Artist Home, Studio, and Gallery Tour

Tour Photo

By Maia Williams

Bring your camera! The jaw-dropping homes, landscapes, studios, shops, and galleries we will visit on this tour of the country surrounding the urban area will create an unforgettable San Miguel de Allende experience.

This tour will highlight the genius of artists and artisans, architects and designers.

This unique outing includes a tour of what’s often referred to as the most unusual home, gallery, and working studio in all of México. Created by Anado McLaughlin, this tour stop promises to be an unforgettable feast for the eyes.

On the way to our next stop, you will enjoy light refreshments, followed by a tour of the extraordinary home and grounds of one of San Miguel’s most colorful and discussed properties.

Along the way, you will have ample opportunity to explore and purchase art, mementos, and gifts for yourself and for your friends. The tour features a leisurely stop at Trip Advisor’s number-one San Miguel shopping destination, Galeria Atotonilco, featuring world-renowned folk art from throughout México and beyond.

On the way back to Centro, you may add an optional, no-cost tour extension to explore the region’s most comprehensive arts complex, Fábrica la Aurora, known widely for its numerous galleries, shops, and restaurants.

People tell us this is an unforgettable experience, perfect for visitors and for residents who do not drive. We recommend wearing comfortable clothing and shoes.

This tour often sells out. Purchase your tickets online today at sanmiguelliterarysala.org.

Tour proceeds provide funding for San Miguel Literary Sala’s reading program, My First Book, which provides young children in local indigenous villages with a teacher who leads them through their first experiences of reading from a selection of developmentally appropriate books.

Tours are led by Maia Williams, an advocate for the arts and codirector of the San Miguel Writers’ Conference.
