Dear Editor:

During February and March, the CASA midwives are offering free birth assistance to a total of 90 women.

This offer is on a first-come, first-serve basis, so we urge all women with due dates in March who still would like to have a midwife assist them with their birth to immediately call Alejandra at the CASA Clinic at 415 152 6181, to set up an appointment. Free birth assistance is being offered to the first 90 women who have a due date in March 2019.

The CASA campaign began in February, on St Valentine’s Day, and is appropriately named #parterasconamor, in the honor of the concept of love and frien

dship, features of midwifery.

The CASA midwives want to show through this campaign that they are grateful to the community for its support, and particularly grateful to the more than 10,000 women and their families who have had their babies at the CASA Clinic since it opened in 1996.

The CASA government-accredited midwifery program was the first in the country to award a four-year professional degree in this noble profession, and its hospital was the first one in the country to have on staff traditional midwives, physicians, gynecologists, professional midwives, and nurses.

In 1996, many people had never heard of the profession of midwifery, and today, there are still large groups of people unaware that all competent, professional, and caring midwives all over the world work in a team with gynecologists and others to provide women with a wide range of services, including prenatal care and safe, loving births. Midwives are experts in low-risk births, and gynecologists are experts in high-risk births, which covers many contingencies.

It seems like yesterday that the CASA Hospital opened, and yet more than 10,000 women have given birth there. As a way of showing our thanks, we are offering free birth assistance in March to the first 90 women who show up for this opportunity.

We invite you to join and share the #parterasconamor campaign. If you know a future mom, please have her call Alejandra immediately to set up a prenatal visit. For more information, please see our Facebook page:@clinicadematernidad and our website, which is available in English and Spanish.
