Book Signing at Camino Silvestre to Showcase Ari Seth Cohen’s “Advanced Love” Movement
By Jim B. McKeever
Ari Seth Cohen, author of Advanced Style and Advanced Style: Older and Wiser, is coming to San Miguel de Allende to celebrate inspiring couples and, in particular, those who call San Miguel their home. He and five of the San Miguel couples featured in his new book, Advanced Love—a collection of his photos of older couples in long-term relationships—will appear at Camino Silvestre’s calle Correo location on March 1 to autograph copies of the book.
What is Cohen’s reasons for documenting older couples, who are often neglected?
“I started documenting the style, stories, and wisdom of the senior set over 10 years ago as a way to deal with the loss of my beloved grandmother, Bluma,” he says. “A few years after starting [the blog] Advanced Style, I entered into my first serious relationship. I was meeting so many fascinating older men and women who served as great examples of long-lasting love. They became my unofficial relationship counselors and guides.
“I have always been inspired by images of enduring love. All my grandparents stayed together in loving relationships until the end. The stories and photos in Advanced Love show us that it’s never too late to fall in love. I had always wanted to visit San Miguel de Allende after hearing so much from one of my muses, Debra Rapoport. I finally had an opportunity to visit a few years ago when I brought my Mom for her sixty-ninth birthday. We had a magical trip, and I met so many great couples for my new book.”
The book includes 40 profiles of couples from around the world and more than 200 photos. The profiles explore themes of love and companionship through firsthand insight from the subjects. The couples interviewed share their stories of falling in love, tell what they have learned after decades of partnership, and offer valuable relationship advice.
