Robyn Child Cole’s Exhibit Explores Themes of Transformation

By Susan Santiago

Join us for the opening reception for artist Robyn Child Cole’s San Miguel de Allende solo exhibit Story of Transformations at the Galeria San Francisco at the Fábrica La Aurora Art Walk. The show opens on Saturday, February 2 in conjunction with the Annual Anniversary Art Walk at Fábrica La Aurora.

Cole is an award-winning, internationally known mixed-media artist who currently works in two mediums: encaustic and cold wax/oil. Encaustic uses hot beeswax melted with resin and color pigments. In cold wax technique, pellets of beeswax are mixed with natural solvents and pigments to achieve a cake frosting-type of consistency in cold wax .

As a painter in the contemporary and abstract style, Cole is also a process artist. In her own words: “My goal is for people to experience the process of the work: to see every stroke, every mark, every line. Both the encaustic and cold wax/oil paint mediums allow me to present that visual history to my viewers.”

Cole’s process is to be an autobiographical artist, describing the transformation of her life when she got sober at the age of 30.  She presents the concept of transformations not only in her own life but also in the lives of others. The questions she asks her viewers to ponder include: How do we stop self-destructive behavior? Are we willing to get out of our comfort zone? Do we have the courage to move to another country and experience a richer and fuller life?

Cole began exploring these concepts in her original series called Authentic Lives and is further explored in her new series called Distant Dreams. Paintings from both of these series are featured in her show.

Robyn Child Cole teaches two-day classes at the Galeria San Francisco’s New Art Workshop Space next to the Galeria at Fábrica La Aurora. If you choose to learn about encaustic and cold wax/oil, contact the Gallery at this number: 415 152 6699 or visit our website at:
