EFT Provides an Easy Method to Calm Stress and Anxiety

By Sarah Grace Powers

Stress, worry, and anxiety plague our modern-day lives. Even while living the good life here in San Miguel de Allende, you may find yourself overworrying, plagued by obsessive thinking, or simply feeling anxious for no obvious reason.

Anxiety can manifest in many different ways, and at its worst need to be treated by a licensed medical professional. But for many of us, anxiety shows up in its milder forms. It is the root cause of unpleasant habits like biting your nails or compulsive eating, and if left unchecked, it can degrade your quality of life.

It can be hard to distinguish the difference between anxiety and stress. I like this explanation: stress is a response to a real or perceived threat, while anxiety is a reaction to the stress. So, basically, anxiety is a continued experience of the stress even after the stressor is gone. Another way anxiety shows up is when you are thinking something stressful that may occur at some point in the future.

In other words, when you’re feeling anxious, you are not living in the present.

Even if you identify as an anxious person and can’t imagine your life any other way, there is an easy solution to lessen your anxious feelings and behaviors in a short amount of time.

It’s a technique called EFT (emotional freedom techniques) or “tapping.” It works with the body’s energy meridians, similar to the way acupuncture works. You can gain relief all by yourself simply by using your fingers to tap on specific points along these meridians.

How can that really work? It just seems crazy that tapping on your face and body could make any sort of difference! Yet it does. And one of the reasons why has to do with how your brain works.

As you tap, you repeat specific words or phrases that tell the nonverbal part of your brain that you are safe, all is well, and you can be calm. One reason you get anxious is because your brain can’t tell the difference between when a stressful situation is really happening and you’re just thinking about it happening.

EFT tapping reduces the stress hormones in your body produced with such thoughts, and a lot more! Studies have shown tapping to be effective in reducing physical pain, ending food cravings, losing weight, healing addictions, ending phobias, and much more.

Curious to learn more about how EFT tapping works and to try it out for yourself? Come to my class, “Release Anxiety with EFT Tapping,” on Tuesday, February 5. You’ll learn and practice tapping and feel better when you walk out than when you came in!
