Alan Jordan Directs Religious Satire Play at Shelter Theater

Act of God Erik Zavala300

By John Wharton

Based on the book by former Daily Show head writer David Javerbaum, An Act of God was heralded by one critic as “like the Bible narrated by Mel Brooks on crack-laced manna.” Acclaimed director Alan Jordan brings An Act of God to Shelter Theater, exploring religion’s influence on society’s most poignant prejudices.

The play debuts Thursday, February 7, at Shelter Theater, and closes Sunday, February 10.

An Act of God stars Erik Zavala as the Creator himself with help from two “Genesistants,” actors Rodrigo Demian and Sebastian Vallin, i.e., the archangels Gabriel and Michael. Together they offer hilarious and painfully accurate commentary on Western society’s shortcomings.

Charles Isherwood of the New York Times raved about this play, “It’s an hour and a half of comedy heaven.”

Jordan has directed other acclaimed Shelter Theater hits, including House, I Am My Own Wife, Diary of a Madman, By the Waters of Babylon, The Tricky Part, and Building the Wall.

Tickets for An Act of God are only available online at All seating is reserved.
