Upcoming Artist’s Sale at Bordello Gallery to Benefit Local Children with Disabilities

IMG_9639

By Barbara Poole

Join us at the Bordello Galeria this coming Thursday afternoon for an artist reception, exhibit sale, and pastel painting demonstration to benefit children here in San Miguel de Allende with disabilities. One hundred percent of the proceeds will go to the disabled of our community and to Disabled Sports Eastern Sierra, a California organization that helps disabled kids and veterans enjoy outdoor sports.

The benefactor of this event, Mike Ishikawa, formerly an architect and avid outdoorsman, has now become a top award-winning pastel painter in his retirement. He recently won first place in the Plein Air Festival of Los Angeles and the Pastel Society of Southern California. His art will be on sale.

Ishikawa currently combines his passion for the outdoors, his love of pastel painting, and his compassion for the needs of the people with disabilities through benefit events in Southern California, and now here in San Miguel. Ishikawa’s mission has become to help persons with disabilities enjoy outdoor activities.

Ishikawa discovered San Miguel while in a painting workshop at Casa de la Noche Bed and Breakfast last year and brought home the spirit of our town through sketches and photos that he has converted into 10 or so paintings inspired by our remarkable architecture. Seeing his paintings is like going on a field trip through San Miguel.

In addition to the one-day exhibit at the Bordello Galeria, Ishikawa will do a demo painting in pastels to be raffled off while he is here for the week.

Ishikawa’s reception will be from 3pm to 6pm Thursday, January 17. He will have his painting materials at the ready and will answer questions throughout the event.

The painting created during this afternoon will be raffled off, and, like the sales of all painting on display, 100 percent of the proceeds will go to help others.

Please join us for this special opportunity to watch Mike Ishikawa’s pastel demo “art in action” in the fountain garden of Casa de la Noche, and see a collection of his work commemorating our town.

Bordello Galeria and Casa de la Noche are located at Organos19, Centro, 1/2 block off Hernandez Macias. For more information call 152 0732.
