Democrats Abroad to Hold Annual Meeting at Biblioteca

By Laura Kuykendall

On January 14, Democrats Abroad San Miguel hosts its annual chapter meeting, where it will elect new officers for two-year terms.

The organization will also be honoring Lesley Lustgarten as Benefactor of the Year. Members are invited to attend and cast their votes.

In other news, January 19, 2019, has been chosen for the Third Annual Women’s March on Washington.

In the past two years in San Miguel de Allende, hundreds of people have joined together to protest the presidential election and then to rally supporters to go to the polls in 2018 to flip the House of Representatives. That election helped produce the largest volunteer Get Out the Vote effort in the history of Democrats Abroad SMA, and the Democratic Party gained 40 seats in the House of Representatives.

This year, Democrats Abroad SMA will be supporting the Women’s March via an executive committee member who will be marching in Washington DC and carrying a banner representing the Democrats of San Miguel de Allende. If you are traveling to Washington and would like to connect with Lea and march with an SMA banner, she can be contacted at

This spring, Democrats Abroad SMA will be hosting the annual general meeting for Democrats Abroad México, to which all Democrats Abroad members in México are invited to attend. The focus will be on expanding efforts to register people to vote in US elections who are voting from México and assisting them in making sure their votes count.
