If you are just arriving in San Miguel for your winter vacation and you will still be here in February, we encourage you to go online soon to purchase your tickets to the San Miguel International Writers’ Conference and Literary Festival. Most of the events are open to the public.

Sold out?

We know that many people who arrive in January are disappointed to find that some Literary Festival events are already sold out. Don’t despair! We are saving seats for you if you purchase one of our custom-designed packages. For example, our new “Pleasures of Reading” package is perfect for you if you are most interested in attending our main ballroom events, including our six keynote speakers, our hilarious new “Literary Death Match,” and Interviews with three of the keynote speakers. For only US$295, your badge will admit you to all ballroom events plus two panels. If you are most interested in a deep dive into your writing skills, the “Writers’ Package” may be perfect for you. Or you might want to select one or two of the Intensive Workshops for Writers, all held on Saturday, February 16. Tickets to many individual events and to our exciting get-to-know-San Miguel excursions are also still available.

As a tip for the future, be sure you are on our mailing list so that next year, you will be able to buy tickets from up north and not wait until you arrive in town. We will open registration for our 2020 Conference on August 1, 2019. Just go to to join our e-mail list so you can plan ahead.

Keynote speakers, panels, and special events

Headlining the conference this year, which takes place February 13–19, are Adam Gopnik, Jennifer Clement, Paul Theroux, Susan Orlean, Sandra Gulland, and Cristina Rivera Garza. New special events include the raucous “Literary Death Match” (already a huge hit in over 60 US cities); “The Interviews,” in which seasoned literary talk show host Hal Wake will interview Paul Theroux, Adam Gopnik, and Jennifer Clement for twenty minutes each; and our all-new Corazon de Mexico Fiesta, with many new surprises.

Our panel discussions are often our most popular events. They give you the opportunity to become acquainted with faculty members you might not otherwise meet. The panels most likely to be of general interest are the following: “Writing and Reading Across Borders” will include four of our keynote speakers: Adam Gopnik, Paul Theroux, Sandra Gulland, and Cristina Rivera Garza. And sure to be fascinating is the timeliest of all the panels, “Writers and Freedom of Expression.” Other panels of most interest to writers include “Assembling Your Publishing Dream Team,” “The Wisdom of the Agents,” “Memoir and Personal Essay,” and “Making a Living as a Writer.”
