Surrealist Art Group Exhibition Opens at Galería Casa Diana

Blue Crowd de Cyr Casas técnica encausto

By Alejandro Arcos

A group exhibition of new works by surrealist artists will open with a reception at Galería Casa Diana on Thursday, December 20. Three dazzlingly surrealist artists will be featured in the show: Carmen Gutierrez, Laumuq, and Cyr Casas. Their creations are made up of surprising aesthetic elements, and in the case of some pieces, the surprise transcends even its material components.

In the process of creating dreamlike and fantastical characters in artworks, one can intuit the artist’s intention to express the intrinsic value of existence. In other words, the artwork’s value is not only found in its aesthetic characteristics, sensitivity, and those decisions that arise from the artist’s love for its creation. The pieces themselves communicate how everything is valuable because it is part of the body of the universe.

The mystique of Carmen Gutierrez and her brush strokes leads us to inhabit worlds with an Eastern influence and to delve into their symbolism. Meanwhile, the fantastical universe of Cyr Casas is built upon explorations of aesthetics, subtlety, and surrealist genius. Lastly, Laumuq, via her creative medium, teaches us how from recycled everyday waste exotic characters can emerge.

The group exhibition runs through January 15.

Gallery hours are Monday–Saturday, 10am–6pm and Sunday 11am–4pm. For additional information, please contact or at 415 152 0885.
