Singer Morganna Love Organizes “Love of San Miguel” concert

By Eduardo Mora

Local favorite Morganna Love will be performing at the Angela Peralta Theater on Friday, December 21 at 7 pm, accompanied by renowned local musicians and singers and the pianist who in November organized a packed choral performance of Mozart’s Requiem at the Parroquia.

With guitarist Colima Rafael Terán, pianist Mauro Ledesma, and local tenor Chris Aude, Love and company will be performing a concert they’re calling “Love of San Miguel,” which will include some of the performers’ favorite songs, including opera pieces, boleros, and samba.

Love is one of those artists who, from an early age, received the calling of Euterpe and since then has devoted her life to her two loves, music and her hometown, San Miguel de Allende. After graduating from the Mexican National Conservatory of Music, she performed on stages around the globe, including the Bellas Artes Palace, which is considered by many as the most prestigious stage in México.  She has also sung in Europe, Asia, and South America.

In addition to her successful singing career, Love has acted in movies. Her documentary, Made in Bangkok, describes one of her dreams: Love is a Mexican transgender opera singer with a relentless determination to fight against social stigma and family prejudice. Her dream is to have sex reassignment surgery. Her only chance to make it happen is to win a beauty pageant in Bangkok and use the US$10,000 cash award to pay for the surgery. The documentary follows Love as she embarks on her odyssey to assert the identity she has struggled all her life to construct.

Her book, En el Cuerpo Correcto, was a bestseller.

Morganna can also be seen in the Netflix series Rosario Tijeras and in her film Oasis, which won the Ariel, the most important movie award in Mexico. Most recently, she participated in the TV show The Voice México.

She is also currently producing her first album, where she will also make her debut as a composer and author.

Tickets for this concert are available at the Petit Four bakery at Mesones 99 (250, 150, and 100 pesos).
