Gypsy Blues Comes to Shelter Theater

Nathan and Jessie300

By John Wharton

The Nathan Rivera Band returns to San Miguel de Allende to share its music and perform original “gypsy blues” this Friday and Saturday at Shelter Theater.

Californians Nathan Rivera and Jessie Andra Smith are sure to put a smile on your face with their upbeat tunes inspired by their travels. Jessie’s jazz guitar and heartfelt singing have earned her not only prizes at American musical competitions but a special place in the hearts of San Miguelenses. Paired with Nathan Rivera’s eclectic accordion and fluent improvisation, they meld together to create a truly unique and exhilarating show. The duo’s vocal harmonies, deft accordion playing, jazz guitar, and hilarious showmanship blend to make their show a grin-worthy good time! Buy tickets at the Biblioteca or online at sheltervg4.com.

Friday, December 21st at 6pm: the Shelter-Skelter Storytelling Extravaganza returns with more tales from the heart of México! Producer Leslie Beam, with a background in stand-up comedy and her San Francisco hit show “Miss-Matches.com,” promises the tale-tellers will share personal and fictional tales of comedy, adventure, drama, and even revisionist history.

With stories limited to no more than ten minutes, the show will move fast.  Live classical guitar promises to add a little class preshow and as a gentle reminder to storytellers that their time’s up! Come and enjoy a night of discovery and music as the professional and amateur storytellers of San Miguel share their personal stories.

Open Mic Tuesday at 7 pm. Here’s your chance for your ten minutes of fame on our warm and welcoming stage! Regulars call it the “Cheers Bar” of San Miguel. So get up and strut your stuff: music, dance, acting, comedy—you can do (almost!) anything you like—or just sit back and enjoy the fun.

Notice: Open Mic will be canceled for December 25 and January 1.

The Shelter Theater is an easy 10-minute walk down from the Jardín! See our calendar at www.sheltervg4.com for dates and online tickets. Find our logo on the Que Pasa map in the northwest corner. Write sheltervg4@gmail.com for details. Please respect our artists: no-show tickets may be released at showtime with no refund.
