¡Qué Barbara!

By Barbara Poole

Ever wonder what this means? It is a positive and dramatic exclamation in our local Mexican culture, and for good reason! It tells the world of your amazement and appreciation! You see something fabulous and say, ¡Qué Barbara!

St Barbara’s Day is December 4. Casa de La Noche will mark a second annual party to honor all Barbaras of San Miguel de Allende. All ladies named Barbara are invited to enjoy a little fiesta in St Barbara’s (and their own) honor at Casa de la Noche, Tuesday December 4 from 5:30–7pm. Come meet a lot of us, and don’t worry about remembering names.

Our namesake is the patron saint of artillery and armory soldiers as well as minors. St Barbara protects her believers from the dangers of sudden and violent death.

We will lift a cup of cheer in her honor on this day, as well as meet new friends, have some fun, tell a story or two, and learn about this formidable lady for whom we are named.

This one-of-a-kind event will take place at Organos 19, just a half block off Hernandez Macias.

This is a party just for Barbaras. Barbara wannabe can come for a fee of100 pesos, but real Barbaras enter free!
