Guanajuato Governor Diego Sinhue Rodríguez, Querétaro Governor Francisco Domínguez Servién, San Luis Potosí Governor Juan Manuel Carreras, and Aguascalientes Governor Martín Orozco held a meeting last week in San Miguel in order to stablish the basis of a Project to generate economic and social development in the center-Bajío region.

In this second meeting the block was integrated and they said it will be for working as a team to have an integrated platform for investments, production, logistics, exportations, social development, and employment opportunities.

With the creation of this partnership, unique in México, the four states will work to improve economic development, connectivity, and migration in the region. “The formation of this group has no precedents in México. We are making a commitment to give certainty to investors and to generate state synergy in order to have a region open to investment and the generation of social development,” said Querétaro Governor Domínguez.

In part, these four states, which consistently show the highest numbers of residents leaving to migrate to the US, are partnering in order to give their citizens more opportunities locally, the governors said.

“The global economic dynamic demands systems of coordination and cooperation that must overcome a local perspective in order to promote growth and investment,” Domínguez said. “We need to overcome ideological, geographic, and political barriers.”

Guanajuato Governor Sinhue said that the four governors will hold a third meeting soon to officially sign the accord and to prepare a summary of the partnership for presentation to México’s president-elect, André Manuel López Obrador, who takes office December 1. All necessary concessions to the national plan of austerity will be made, Sinhue said.
