St Paul’s To Host Canon John White on The Future of Marriage

By Rev Ernie Townsend

St Paul’s Anglican Church will host the Canon John White, CVO, lecture this year on November 17 at St Paul’s Parish Hall from 10am–3pm. Canon White will be reflecting on Committed Human Relationship in a Changing Society. Topics will include “What is the Future of Marriage?” and “Patterns of Marriage Today and Tomorrow.”

There are foundational changes occurring in western civilization. Among these changes are the challenges to the traditional definition of marriage. The structural definition of the legal, emotional, and sexual act of committed partnership is on the cusp of something new. Canon White will explore the future of marriage within its historical context and within the larger context of committed human relationships.

From 1982 to his retirement in 2012, White served as canon and vice dean of St George Chapel at Windsor Castle. As canon precentor of St George’s, he was responsible for all liturgies in the chapel. He served as canon treasurer, and as its librarian, he edited the monograph series. He also was the Warden of St George’s House, an educational and conference center in the Castle.

Upon his retirement, HM Queen Elizabeth II awarded White the Commander of the Victorian Order (CVO) for his service to the Queen and her family.

White has lectured widely in the UK, the US, and Mexico. He is a published poet and is president of the Windsor Music Festival. He serves as chair of Together with Children, an English charity that supports JUNCONI, a program for street children in Puebla.
