Just One More Story Please

SHELTER

By David Johanssen

It was as little children that many of us began our passion as story listeners. Every night we begged, “Just one more story, pleeeease!” No other experience fuels the feelings of anticipation, empathy and satisfaction as sitting in the dark and hearing a fresh and mysterious story that magically seems to be created just for you.

Funny, serious, historical, fictional, autobiographical—the entertaining anecdotes shared at the Shelter Skelter Storytelling Extravaganza are like a box of chocolates: you don’t know exactly what you’re gonna get. But for this round of tales, producer Leslie Beam, with a background in stand-up comedy and a long running San Francisco hit show Miss-Matches.com, promises an eclectic mix of compelling stories and uproarious performers in a fast-moving show that includes live music and even a bit of magic. Don’t miss an evening of tall (and sometimes true) tales in the intimate setting of the Shelter Theater.

To help celebrate Dia de Los Muertos with San Miguel de Allende, Shelter Theater presents the film Coco (the wildly-popular Walt Disney/Pixar hit) in Spanish. The film, which involves a Mexican boy’s budding relationship with his ancestors, will be presented in Spanish November 3. The presentation will be free, so bring your favorite neighborhood kids to this terrific children’s film. You’ll love it too (and you can practice your Spanish) as Miguel explores the stunning and colorful magic of the beloved Day of the Dead. The San Diego Reader calls the film, “Enchanting and dazzling. Coco is a resplendent love letter to México.” Free.

The Monsanto Papers. Is Monsanto dealing in a chemical they know causes cancer? The fight for the truth involves a battle of wills between public safety advocates and the strongarm tactics of Big Agriculture. The Monsanto Papers is a hard-hitting exposé on corporate malpractice. Join us for a discussion on this important topic after the film.

Shelter Theater is an easy 10-minute walk down from the Jardín! See our calendar at www.sheltervg4.com for dates and online tickets. Find our logo on the Qué Pasa map in the upper left-hand corner. Write sheltervg4@gmail.com for details.
