The best moon is an October moon, they say. On October 9 the San Miguel Mexican Red Cross chapter will not only hold its Annual Gala Dinner under that proverbial October moon, but drink and dance under it as well.

This fundraiser gala will be accompanied by wine from Santísima Trinidadand dancing to Latin music at the Rosewood hotel. All these festivities are with a single goal in mind—raising enough money to purchase the local Red Cross chapter a brand new ambulance.

Leticia Fernández de Noyola, president of San Miguel’s Red Cross chapter, founded this annual event, which has brought benefit to the entire municipality’s population, who at any moment can be a victim of an emergency. Thanks to the support of the fundraising event (as well as benefactors), the service, the equipment, and above all else the ambulances, have all improved.

The gala will receive its guests with margaritas and mezcalitas (with mezcal Tibieblo). Magda Macle and Ana Laura Allende’s performance will crown the night. According to Fernández de Noyola, the musical spectacle is a production donated by Cristina Sada, who staged it at the Auditorio San Pedro in Nuevo León, where it gathered a crowd of 900 people.

The original performance featured 12 musicians plus a male and a female voice. In San Miguel, it will feature five musicians (including pianist Carlos Fuentes) and the voices from Macle and Allende. “We want to provide a magical night to all of our guests, as a thank-you for their support,” said Fernández.

As it is tradition, the gala night will have a silent auction of jewelry and art, and the catalogue is already being sent to those that have purchased a ticket. “It has beautiful and interesting pieces,” remarked Fernández.

The lots will be displayed next to the main patio during the night. On the guests’ tables there will be a document where they can make their bids on the items.

Noches de Otoño—Fall Nights—is the fifth annual gala organized by the Red Cross. And during the last four years, the Rosewood Hotel has showed its generosity providing the space and the dinner, this time from chef Vincent Wallez. “We want to raise 550,000 pesos in order to get a new ambulance,” said Leticia. Not that there is a lack of vehicles at the organization, she said, but some of the ambulances were bought already used and now need to be replaced.

“We want to get new ambulances because that our public face—in addition to the paramedics—our contact with Sanmiguelenses and visitors. We want to keep providing a high quality of service.”

Half of the cost (the other 550,000 pesos) needed will be provided by members of the board, she said. The equipment also will cost extra.
