Two extraordinary artists present very different, exciting, individual exhibitions.

Luis Kirsh returns to San Miguel with a collection of romantic landscapes, this time inspired by islands in the south, the southern paradise that lies between Africa and Europe.

Born in Mexico, Kirsh has spent the major part of his life living in Spain’s Canary Islands, with an early-learning stint in England, a period of his life which greatly gave him the light and color palette he is famous for. Those beautiful, pale, transparent, almost water-like brush-strokes so prevalent in his work have an almost sensuous, passionate quality in these new works. Understandably, these works are dedicated to the islands of the south. Unlike other great landscape artists, Kirsh is less interested in what he sees but instead paints what he senses, the sensations received rather than the image itself. Therein lies the magic in this work.

Jose (Pepe) Del Rio, on the other hand, is one of Mexico’s most renowned and successful commercial photographers. His work can be seen in most of Mexico’s important presentations from the National Tourism office to Televisa, to name a few. And, therefore, it is his wonderful gift of an amazing eye, his superb technique, his innate curiosity, and his talent that has allowed Del Rio to morph from commercial photography to join the rarified ranks of Mexico’s most talented artists. Although his commercial work has taken him around the world, some of the most interesting work dedicated to art has been achieved here in Mexico. This miniretrospective is a testament to his love for this country— its flora, its fauna, its amazing people.

Both exhibitions will remain open to the public throughout September and October.
