On August 13, Leticia Fernández, president of the Red Cross of San Miguel, received the keys to a new ambulance that will benefit all Sanmigueleses.

The vehicle was donated by expats, members of the institution’s board of directors.

President Fernández said that the new ambulance, a 2018 model made by Chevrolet, cost 1.1 million pesos “and is for basic services. But we will equip it for providing critical care in bigger emergencies.”

The ambulance will be put to work once it fulfills Mexican health regulations, which should only take a couple of days.

Fernández said that she is happy the expat community has realized how important the Red Cross’s work is. She also mentioned that after Rev George F Woodward II from St Paul’s church visited the Red Cross facilities, he decided to make a 1,000 peso donation. The money will be used to get ropes for the Red Cross’s urban rescue vehicle.

Sanmiguelenses and the general public have the Red Cross’s full commitment to arriving at scenes where first aid is needed, Fernández said, and to saving lives, “since it is our passion.”
