On August 9, the San Miguel Community Foundation presented the new members of its voting council on a beautiful evening in the courtyard of Dr. Felipe G Dobarganes’s home.

This cocktail party was attended by many friends of the association and representatives of other NGOs in the city such as Ojalá Niños, Pro Música, Apoyo a Gente Emprendedora, Fundación Comunitaria Don Diego, among others. In addition to attending the event, folks attending were able to connect with each other and create support networks amongst themselves and their organizations, all while enjoying a good party held thanks to the wedding planner, Guadalupe Álvarez.

The San Miguel Community Foundation is an association dedicated to raising funds to donate twice a year to needy Mexican charities, as well as providing a service to Americans wishing to make a tax-deductible donation to a favorite San Miguel charity. The SMCF is run by a voluntary board of directors that meets once a month. Directors include Donna Wilson Foudray, president; Dr. Salvador Eduardo Quiroz Saenz, vice president; Guadalupe Álvarez Brunel, treasurer; María Teresa García Dobarganes Barlow, secretary; Mary Ann Amparo Ramírez García, legal counsel; Kathleen Mann; and Freddy Sargent York; Addie Coral Romero; and her bilingual administrator, Araceli Cerritos. Graciela Salazar, Costa Androulakis, Dr. Laura Elías, Redg Teague, Guadalupe Arriola, Lane Simons, and Linda Cooper have just recently joined.

In the first quarter of 2018, the SMCF awarded a 1.51 million-peso grant from its own resources. The NGOs that have received support from this organization during 2018 include San Miguel Firefighters, Rotary Club, Mitigare Cuidados Paliativos, Charco del Ingenio, Centro Infantil San Pablo, and Ojalá Niños. The organizations that received support in 2017 also included the San Miguel Firefighters, Apoyo a Gente Emprendedora, Rotary Club, Audubon, Fundación Don Diego and PEASMA (Proyecto de Educación Ambiental).
