Dear Editor: By Paula Greene

At 2am on the morning of July 31, a water leak (fuga) streamed down our steep Centro street for seven hours. I awoke early to a flooded room and spent hours diverting the flow of water to a bathroom drain.

By 9:30am, the leak was fixed by SAPASMA, and those doing the cable work dealt with the aftermath of water streaming into their vulnerable open ditches that caused the flood in our home. I took pictures of the process.

This letter is to acknowledge the professional response of all the agencies responsible for burying cables in El Centro, including Obras Publicas, SAPASMA, and the contracted workers doing the job.

I spoke to the director of SAPASMA, who sent his engineer to examine the repairs expertly executed by those contracted for the challenging job of burying the cables under cobbled streets.

The engineer from Obras Publicas arrived to affirm repairs were done and to assuage concerns about potential future problems.

All this transpired within two days. I can’t think of many places on our planet where such a timely response would resolve a potential problem so quickly.

Thank you to our Mexican compadres for their hard work and can-do attitude. They often stay past working hours to finish a task.

Paula Greene

Proud Canadian/Mexican resident
