The always spectacular annual graduation for the five-year-old students at Centro Infantil de los Angeles reached a dynamic and glowing dimension this July 8. Presided over by St. Paul’s newly arrived and already beloved rector, Father George Woodward, graduates and family members were treated to a uniquely designed ceremony. Out of respect to these honored guests, the entire service was conducted in Spanish.

Having been escorted into the sanctuary by the school’s director and their teachers and adorned in white with blue-trimmed caps and gowns, the children awaited their big moment. It came when Father Woodward presented each child with his or her diploma and a personal blessing. Each child was also presented with a gift, a token remembrance of their weekly art class.

“Let the fun begin!” And it did, following the service on the church lawn. A dance performance by the director and teachers concluded the show. Refreshments, prepared by dedicated volunteers, awaited all in the Parish Hall.

The merger of Centro Infantil San Pablo with Casa de los Angeles, now known as Centro Infantil de los Angeles, has opened a new window of opportunity for expatriates in San Miguel. So many of us are here because of our love of and talents in music and the arts. Volunteering at the school enables the furthering of this fervor to talented and appreciative children who might otherwise never enjoy such experiences.

Those who are unable to donate their time can consider visiting the center for an event or a tour. There is also an opportunity to participate in a child sponsorship program for children in either daycare or preschool.
