Anam Cara Returns to Don Lupe Grill

By Marc Taylor

Tonight at 7pm, Don Lupe Grill, 12 Salida de Celaya, presents the band Anam Cara.

Anam Cara has become San Miguel’s magnetic and imaginative folk, rock, and country musical collaboration. The band, featuring Catherine Bryne, Marc Taylor, Jordan Beslow, and Larry Dworksy, presents well known songs from the 60s and 70s as well as traditional American folk music in updated arrangements. Their repertoire draws from Crosby, Stills and Nash, John Prine, Woody Guthry, Cat Stevens, The Left Bank, Gillian Welsh, Peggy Lee, Bob Dylan, and many others. Their performance features close harmonies and virtuoso instrumentals. The audience is encouraged to sing and dance.

Anam Cara, which means “soul friends” in Gaelic, was founded on the welcoming stage at Don Lupe Grill last winter. The band crafted a unique vocal and instrumental approach that breathes new life into music rooted in traditional North American sources. The band also has a particular interest in “cross border” styles that express a commitment to social justice and cultural harmony. They have been described as “Peter, Paul and Mary updated to today’s audience.”

Don Lupe Grill, a San Miguel restaurant venue known for live musical performances and Anam Cara, is partnering to offer this casual evening of your favorite music, food, and drink. Anam Cara will perform two sets starting at 7pm. Don Lupe suggests making reservations (415 121 3820) as seating is limited.
