Monthly summer writing courses will begin on Monday, July 9, in the Historic Center of San Miguel de Allende. Each monthly course is designed to introduce new and seasoned writers to exemplary examples of prose and poetry by a wide variety of authors from around the globe. Our emphasis will be on writing as creative expression and the generation of new work for personal satisfaction or eventual publication. Participants are welcome to use class exercises and writing time to polish work already in progress.

The goal is for each participant to produce one solid draft of a story or poem per week.

Together, we will coax our stories, family legends, and experiences into written form—as memoir, nonfiction, or poetry. We will invite our unique creative energies to be fully present, co-create a community of encouragement, and wave adiós to their favorite hiding places (to-do lists, fear of failure and success, full calendars, and the status quo).

The framework for each series is multidisciplinary. We will engage our senses, examine archetypes, and immerse ourselves in our past and present environments to woo The Wild Muse. New and unique essays, poems, stories, and prompts will be used to elicit ideas and memories, to teach us to read more like a writer, and to embolden us to write with honesty and clarity. We will listen to the silence, to each other, and to ourselves.

If you and your writing would benefit from a safe place to share your voice and your stories, this series will be a welcome gift of time and space. Sharing your work in class is optional and encouraged.

Stop wishing. Start writing.

Classes are led by Maia Williams, a San Miguel resident who has facilitated popular workshops on personal writing, leadership, and community/business building in the US, Europe, and Mexico.
