Musician Pascal Monzis Discuses Upcoming Concert

By Isela Cano

Isela Cano (I): Hello Pascal! How is it going? Such a pleasure to be here today with you talking about this great project that you have. Tell us, how do you feel about this concert?

Pascal Monzies (P): Great! It feels nice to finally be able to share my work here in San Miguel. It’s been a long road, but I can see the light at the end of the tunnel, and I am proud of what I have been able to achieve. After this concert, I hope to move on to the next part of the project—promoting my music in the rest of Mexico and beyond.

IC: So, you recorded your album here in San Miguel?

PM: Yes, it’s Hecho en México. I have been lucky to work with a great team of musicians!

IC: Awesome! Please tell me more about the album. What’s the music about?

PM: It’s more a vibe, a feeling I am after. Essentially, it’s a world music album. The songs are in English, French, and Spanish. They’re inspired from life here in Mexico. The album is kind of a journey through different rhythms and styles.

IC: How many songs?

PM: Eleven.

IC: So tell me about yourself. Where are you from?

PM: I was born in Switzerland. My mother’s American, and my father’s French. I grew up in the US and France, and now I’ve been living in San Miguel for 11 years.

IC: So you’re Mexican now?

PM: (Laughing) Yes, I feel I’m Mexican now.

IC: Who will be playing with you, and when and where will this concert take place?

PM: The concert will take place at the Santa Ana Theater at La Biblioteca Publica on Saturday, June 30, at 7pm. The musicians who will be accompanying me are Pepe Alcocer on guitar, Jesus Chavez on drums, Sergio Carillo on bass, and Alberto Cervantes on saxophone. There were many other people involved in the recording too, but you can read their credits when you download my album off my website.

IC: Before we say goodbye, is there anything else you want to add, Pascal?

PM: Just that I hope you can make it! It´s going to be lots of fun. If you like world music, Latin rhythms, and want to support original music, then please come. I’ll see you at the concert. I would also like to invite you to follow me on Spotify. You can find me there with my full name, Jean Pascal Monzies. Or go to my website to download Oceans of the Night. My website is

IC: Okay, great. Thanks for your time, and see you at the concert!

PM: No, on the contrary, thanks to all the readers of Atención! See you!
