Dear editor:

Charco thanks SMCF for Support of New Interpretative Center

On behalf of the board of directors of our organization, I publicly express our gratitude to the San Miguel Community Foundation for its 400,000 pesos support for the construction project of a new Visitor and Interpretative Center in the Botanical Garden.

This Center will offer geographic, ecological, and historical information about the El Charco del Ingenio natural area, as well as the entire watershed, whose waters converge in the reserve before crossingthe city of San Miguel. Envisioned as the core of our environmental education program, this new pavilion will host temporary exhibits and will add an elevated viewpoint. The project also involves the reconstruction of the Reception, expansion of the toilets, refurbishment of the cafeteria’s patio, and renovation of the plant exhibition area.

The new Visitor and Interpretative Center will be on the current facility’s same area, with material and style appropriate to El Charco’s traditional character.

With the generous donation from the San Miguel Community Foundation, plus other funds we have raised over the last three months, we are more than halfway to completing our financial goal for this project, which is so important for the botanical garden.
