San Miguel Playhouse Founder to Teach Acting Workshop

Jim Newell, founder of the San Miguel Playhouse and currently its creative director, will offer an acting workshop during the month of June at the Playhouse.

The emphasis of the workshop will be on acting techniques. Participants will work on monologues, memorization techniques, character interaction in selected scenes, and improvisation as a rehearsal tool.

The workshop will be limited to 10 participants, and the cost will be 300 pesos per session, or 2,400 pesos for the one-month program, payable in full at the first session.

Jim Newell was a professional actor, director, and teacher for 38 years in New York, Los Angeles, and American regional theater and has taught at universities in Canada and the United States. He has a master’s degree and a PhD in theater arts.

He has been deeply involved in the theater scene in San Miguel for 12 years and has guided the Playhouse since its opening in 2015.

The three-hour sessions, to be held Tuesdays and Thursdays, take place from 1 to 4pm and will start June 5.
