On the outskirts of the city, the Vergel Bistro & Market is a restaurant that has thrived despite its out-of-the-way location on Camino la Alborada 17. But that also means that when you go down their unassuming country road that you are also away from the noise, the traffic, and all the bustle that the Historic Center involves.

This past Wednesday, May 16, El Vergel celebrated its second anniversary with a cocktail party for family and friends of the restaurant, who have time and time again expressed their unabashed love for the cuisine of Donnie Masterton and Magda Pablos.

This pair’s culinary talent, contemporary and traditional techniques, and flavors accented with fresh ingredients all have brilliantly reinvented classic French bistro cuisine, which has won them local devotees.

The party had a powerful performance of the band Azande Cummings Jazz Trio.

For the occasion, canapés and cocktails were on order, as were unique items such as octopus skewers. Guests could sample the organic and gourmet products sold in El Vergel’s market—such as meats, pastas, vegetables and fruits, breads, coffees, wines, and sweets. Throughout the cocktail hour, attendees were invited to come to the dining room to try something from the menu.

All in all, guests were treated to a feast for all the senses.
