On May 5, the Center for Adolescents of San Miguel (CASA) celebrated the International Day of the Midwife with the launch of our campaign “We Join Hands to Give Birth,” whose goal is that every pregnant woman is accompanied during the birth process.

The companionship that women receive during this process—before, during, and after birth—is essential because when mothers get emotional support from people they trust, a strong tie is created which helps women feel safe while giving birth.

The relationship between the partner and the woman who is going to give birth goes beyond having someone who is only present at the time of the birth. This tight relationship creates a strong bond as the partner learns to listen to the woman, hold her hand when she wants, and make her feel safe and supported so that she gives birth in the best possible way.

Accompanying women during childbirth has numerous benefits for the mother and child and increases the chances for the baby to grow up healthy. It decreases the baby’s stress and helps doctors to detect serious complications.

It is essential that women have confidence in the professionals who accompany them, but it is certainly important that they feel confident and secure in all ways about bringing a new life into the world.
