Guía de Conexiones

By Mónica Deanda

Guía de Conexiones is a business with more than 20 years of history in San Miguel de Allende. During these years its main goals have not changed at all: to keep the people of this city informed.

The twenty-third edition of our guide to San Miguel is to be launched on May 22. It will be available as a hard copy and in digital format, with an innovative interactive platform for easy consultation.

Guia de Conexiones opened its doors in 1995 with the aim of creating a phone directory for the city. We published our first edition of the directory in May 1996. The purpose was to offer a reliable and efficient tool for residents. There were several informative sections, such as one on how to get a driver’s license, a passport, or a construction permit. There was a directory of all nonprofit organizations, including listings of their goals, activities and projects. You could also find a directory of schools in the area and of health services. And there were maps. And, yes, there was a directory of residents, and one for businesses and shops. It was and still is a comprehensive and informative directory.

Ever since, a new edition has been published annually. Many hours are invested in updating each version.

Each of the 22 editions that have been published throughout the years is a testament to the deep transformation that our community has undergone. Its pages show the many businesses and shops that have opened (and closed) their doors in San Miguel.

Besides the publication of this directory, Guía de Conexiones, since 1997, has also issued a city map in the format of a poster showing the more than 1,150 streets in the city, all of the neighborhoods of the urban area, and the rural communities that are part of the municipality.

Guía de Conexiones has also taken into account the tourists that come to our city. During 1998-2001 we published 25 issues of the magazine Allende Turistico, a quarterly edition distributed at no cost to visitors. This magazine contained a calendar of events, tourist sites, information on transportation, and a guide to hotels and restaurants. This project was done again from 2005 to 2008. Currently, we still make a map, distributed free of charge and totally dedicated to tourism. The latest version includes information on tours and adventures within the city and in the surrounding communities.

There is no doubt that Guía de Conexiones has done an incredible job in gathering, editing, and sharing useful information about our municipality, thanks to the wonderful participation of the service-oriented citizens of San Miguel.
