Our city is known worldwide for hosting thousands of artists, for providing them a space to exhibit their work. One of the places that has attracted a large number of artists is the Garden of Art in Benito Juarez Park.

For more than 10 years, Saturdays and Sundays have, without fail, have been the place where tourists and locals can admire the works of dozens of artists with different techniques. Some artists come from San Miguel, but many others come from Guadalajara, Celaya, Torreón, Salamanca, or even the United States. They come to the city with the hope of finding a place where people will appreciate their work.

There are many organizations and people who have supported the Garden, by giving them advertising, exhibit space, or economic support. So on May 5, at the Garden of Art, the artists decided to pay a small tribute to thank their patrons.

While the guests of honor arrived and preparations were made, some artists took a short tour through the space to learn a little about their fellow artists’ work. Then it was time for the recognition awards.

Atención San Miguel, Verónica Agundis, Luz María Núñez, Ana Velázquez, Ricardo Villareal, Ángel Gastelum, David Salgado, and Javier Zavala received recognition from the artists. Each guest of honor received a painting of their choice on display in the park’s roundabout. Each artist had donated a painting to be placed there for this purpose.

Afterward, a trio of guitarists played the “Las mañanitas” birthday song to celebrate Luz María Núñez’s birthday, and she was made “godmother” of the Art Garden. After the trio played a couple of songs, everyone feasted on a small banquet of pizzas, salads, empanadas, cakes, and jellies, and the artists enjoyed an informal get-together.
