Rotaract Action

By Skip Essick

When José De Anda Pérez isn’t working on attracting people to the treasures of San Miguel de Allende through his job at the city’s tourism board, he’s busy with another treasure in our community—Rotaract.

Rotaract is a service arm of the Rotary community made up of young leaders dedicated to changing and improving social welfare in the community.

The Rotaract Club of San Miguel de Allende was founded in 2015 with the goal of targeting vulnerable areas of the city for needed improvements. Over the past three years, these young people have worked nonstop on various projects to make life better in the more desperate parts of town. One of the events Rotaract hosted was a district event that drew 130 Rotaract members. As a result of their work, Rotaract last year delivered to a rural school in the San Miguel municipality its first Rural Library, electrified and equipped with furniture and books.

Rotaract continues to engage in fundraising projects that are near and dear to the hearts of many Sanmiguelenses. Sporting events, food and mezcal tastings, and art auctions comprise just a partial list of Rotaract’s fundraisers. Up-and-coming community leaders are an important group for this organization as they look for leaders who will help with reforestation, reading, and social projects, as well as fostering bonds of brotherhood with national and international clubs.

Rotaract International is celebrating a half century of service. The Rotaract Club San Miguel de Allende is now celebrating three years of friendship and affiliation with the Rotary Club of San Miguel de Allende and Rotary Midday Club. Come hear more about the good things Rotaract is doing within the San Miguel Community with Jose De Anda Perez when San Miguel de Allende’s Midday Rotary Club presents Rotaract Action. The presentation is Tuesday, May 15 at 12:30pm  at the Hotel Mision on Salida a Querétero. Parking is free, and the hotel is easily accessible by bus.

Rotary is where neighbors, friends and problem-solvers share ideas, join leaders, and take action to create lasting change. For more information, contact President Fred Collins at and see
