Dear Editor:

I would like to thank the editor and staff of Atención for the service they give to the community. I am weekly enriched by the publication.

Tim Hazell’s columns on food and food anthropology are a delight, as were the turmeric eggs with caramelized onions for a Saturday morning breakfast. Charles Miller’s Computer Corner always has useful information. The SPA pictures tug at my heart, even if my own five rescues more than keep me busy. The health columns often have new tidbits to add to my notes about information on health and local medical facilities.

I like seeing the entertainment offerings at the Biblioteca. The descriptions prompt me to open a new window into Mexican history, check out the opera Attila on YouTube or whatever I can get to. There is always new information about something happening locally, and I enjoy the pictures of those willing to brave running for mayor and reading their stories. I don’t get these things from El Sol del Bajio or Jornada.

The society and personality coverage would give a Mexican or expat Jane Austen material for a lifetime. The articles and events postings that open up the world of what’s important to the various segments of the community are nothing short of revelatory: who knew how much help is out there if we want to live forever, avoid loneliness, study our navels, not be afraid, write our memoirs (reinvent our past lives!). Fashionable, worthy causes get publicity. Groupies R Us!

Columns about the idiosyncrasies of Spanish, Mexican Spanish, its relationship to Arabic and some of the presentable slang would be nice, as would be one about the natural resources of the Bajio, including water issues.
