Live Salsa Show Coming to Arthur Murray

By Héctor Vértiz

Music is powerful, and dance music all the more so because of the bonds it creates that go beyond ideologies. Societies in so many countries embrace and enjoy Latin music, especially the beat and joyous sounds of salsa, cumbia, and bachata.

Music and dance aren’t superficial; they are strong contributors to our well-being. They grow and anchor networks of friends. For these reasons, and following up on the success of our last “Let’s Dance” evening, we have produced another gathering of talent in this live music and show in a dance setting, on what is surely the best dance floor in San Miguel—at Arthur Murray Dance Centers.

This evening will be under the baton of the talented musical director and pianist Cuban Yamil Vázquez and his group Cuba Son. Yamil has written new arrangements for this evening’s repertory of salsa, cumbia and bachata from a variety of Latin American countries, including Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, Colombia, and Cuba. Musical director Vazquez is a graduate of Cuba’s Escuela Superior de Piano de Santa Clara in composition, orchestration, and contemporary harmony. His professional career took off in the Cabaret Tropicana of Havana, where he worked for various groups there and on world tours.

In addition to arranging and directing the evening’s musical offerings, Yamil will play piano. He will be joined by the incomparable Cuban singer Luis Agüero and a new Cuban voice in San Miguel, Yamir Lujan. A treat is in store during the breaks by two talented San Miguelenses: Alex Ayala will re-enact JLo’s tribute to Celia Cruz, and Julian Mendieta will perform some tracks from his recent CD of boleros. DJ GM from CDMX will take up the musical reins when the live music ends with his sound and light Show, allowing us to continue dancing until the wee hours.

The live music will be accompanied by a great sound system and a video show, providing a maximum of enjoyment for all our senses, and encouraging us to let loose. This isn’t just an event; it’s an experience!

Your participation in this event will allow us to continue bringing top-notch dance orchestras and groups to SMA. In addition to drinks, Arthur Murray will have a menu of snacks and light fare. Rather than being limited to tapping your feet to dance music in a performance hall, this evening you can get out of your chair and enjoy the dance floor to your heart’s content.
