By Cynthia Parada Camacho

Take the opportunity to learn about the resources available locally to meet international standards when managing acute a life-threatening event like a stroke or a heart attack at a lecture on April 19 at the La Casona convention center.

By Dr Emilio Ramírez
Thu, Apr 19, 5–6:30pm
La Casona
Salida a Celaya 77

In this lecture, Dr Emilio Ramirez will address the critical necessity of treating cardiac and stroke emergencies correctly and in a timely way that result in the most positive outcome for the patient. He will also address the importance of thrombolytic therapy and its availability in San Miguel de Allende.

Dr Emilio Ramirez is the medical director at UNIMED Hospital in San Miguel.

He is a specialist and board-certified emergency physician with more than 20 years of experience in emergency rooms, 17 of those years in private medicine working as an ER physician in Amerimed, an American hospital in Puerto Vallarta, and as the chairman of emergency services in the IMSS hospital in Puerto Vallarta.

As an emergency physician, he is committed to ensuring that only ER physicians cover the 24/7 shifts at UNIMED because, in an emergency…time is life.

Emergency medicine is one of the most complete and critical medical specialties because the physician needs to know how to manage an acute crisis across all medical disciplines. To be adequately prepared for this challenge, the training and skills of an ER physician need to be much broader and deeper than other physicians. Physicians in an ER can encounter everything from strokes and cardiac arrest to gastrointestinal bleeding, trauma, uncontrolled hypertension, diabetes complications, respiratory failure, coma, and shock.

First opened in 2016, UNIMED Hospital is a relatively new hospital option in San Miguel with a team of more than 20 physicians, paramedics, and care providers. The hospital provides urgent care services, telemedicine, travel medicine, internal medicine, and comprehensive lab services. It is focused on emergency and critical care medicine with state of the art ground ambulances, a surgical suite, and in-patient care. The image and laboratory center (CEII) attached to UNIMED has state-of-the-art equipment, including the only MRI in San Miguel. It also can do a CT scan with low radiation, fourth dimension ultrasounds, and mammograms. There is also an onsite laboratory, and the emergency room is staffed with ER physicians around the clock, the only such facility in San Miguel to do so.

This lecture is free and open to the public.
