PPN Presents “Get the Talk with just a Gentle Walk”

By Cheryl Young

The streets of San Miguel can be tricky to navigate: after all, it is affectionately known as the “The City of Fallen Women”!  But don’t let the cobblestones intimidate you into missing out on the fascinating history of San Miguel: take the “Gentle Walk” historical tour. This tour is designed specifically for those who are interested in learning more about the fabulous mansions, the churches, and the stories of Ignacio Allende, Father Hidalgo, the War of Independence, and more but who don’t want to walk those cobblestone streets for two-and-a-half hours. Yes, you can “Get the Talk with just a Gentle Walk”!

How does it differ from our regular PPN tour? Our “Gentle Walk” tour starts from the Jardin, just like the classic historical tour. But rather than leave the park for the majority for the tour, here we focus our time on the Jardin: your tour guide will take you around the park at a leisurely pace, stopping at points of interest which also have seating. Of course, there will be an excursion into our famous Parroquia and the Canal Mansion. Your guide will use extensive photographs to tell stories about the important sites that are not in the immediate area, so you will not miss anything.  The “Gentle Walk” tour covers the same 500 years of interesting, rich history as the classic historical tour, so we encourage you to bring a friend or two.

For 48 years, Patronato pro Niños has been providing necessary medical and dental services, and now psychological care, to children in San Miguel whose families cannot afford to provide it for them. In 2017, over 12,500 children benefited from PPN services: that is more than 1,000 per month!

Like the classic historical tours, which run every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, the “Gentle Walk” tour starts at 10:00am. It will run about two hours. Please assemble in front of the Parroquia at 9:45am. We do not take reservations, but we may need to limit the size of the groups. Tours are given in English. Donations are 300 pesos per person, including for the “Gentle Walk” tour. 100% of the tour donations and well-appreciated tips go to support the important work of Patronato Pro Niños.

With five days’ notice, we can offer private customized tours. Contact Christina 415 152 7796 for information and pricing at
