A “GirlyShow” Like None Other!

By David Johanssen

Trio de Femmes’ “GirlyShow” is a cross-cultural collaboration, a unique concoction of “new-American butoh,” storytelling, song, burlesque, and gender-clown fun that exposes and celebrates the modern woman in all her/his/their guises. “GirlyShow” is a sex-positive, feminine, and wholeheartedly funny performance which shines a light into the most complex depths of the human gender-experience.

Who are the Trio de Femmes? Sheri Brown is a performing artist and educator, the artistic director of Seattle’s DAIPAN Butoh Collective, and producer of performance art at the Tashiro Kaplan Artist Lofts. Marina White Raven is a multi-dimensional artist from London, where she integrates art and mysticism as expressed through performance art, cabaret, and song. Lela Besom is a multidisciplinary artist, practicing and performing butoh dance in Seattle, WA.

It’s an utterly new kind of show in San Miguel de Allende, one you won’t soon forget. Said one fan, “Full of energy! The show conveys fundamental femininity in a humorous and wild performance!” One show only at Shelter Theater, Friday, April 13 at 7pm with tickets available at the Biblioteca gift shop Tesoros and online at sheltervg4.com.

“Anam Cara,” Celtic for Soul Friends, is a new musical venture in San Miguel. The band, featuring Catherine Bryne, Marc Taylor, Jordan Breslow, and Larry Dworsky, is known locally for reinterpreting songs from the 60s and 70s as well as traditional folk tunes in updated arrangements. Their repertoire draws from Crosby, Stills, and Nash; John Prine, Woody Guthrie, Cat Stevens, The Left Bank, Gillian Welsh, Peggy Lee, Bob Dylan, and many others. Aside from such classics, though, they also toss an Irish lilt or two into songs from the American folk music canon. It’s a lively evening of good music and new friends! Friday and Saturday only at Shelter with tickets available at the Biblioteca gift shop Tesoros and online at sheltervg4.com.
