Dear Editor

Imagine the surprise of residents of El Mirador, Club Campestre Los Huizaches, Buenaventura, families of students attending Colegio Carrusel Atabal, and others who regularly drive on Calle Fray San Miguel several weeks ago to find that a structure that appeared to be a security booth was being built in the middle of the road just as it intersects with the Celaya highway. This is south of Malanquin on the same side of the highway.

There were no signs or other information to tell drivers who was erecting this structure or what had led to the building of it. There was no information regarding who would be stopped at the booth or why, or which cars, or even pedestrians, would be denied entrance or why.

Some of those affected later learned that some residents of the neighborhood of Los Frailes had decided to erect a booth in the middle of a public road because they felt insecure.

Residents of neighborhoods in the vicinity met to protest this structure interfering with their right of way. Mexican citizens among them felt the erection of a structure in a public road was unlawful in Mexico and that it could not be legally permitted. At the second neighborhood meeting about the erection of the structure, all those attending were against the structure and voted to send a letter to Desarrollo Urbano, requesting that it be demolished as it is illegal.
