On March 22, World Water Day, join local artist and longtime San Miguel resident Rebecca Peterson at the Geek and Coffee café in a fun and meditative arts workshop, “Honoring Mother Earth, Women, and Water.”
The workshop will involve embodied writing, journaling, and banner-making. Wear comfortable clothes for painting and bring a journal or sketchbook, your favorite drawing and writing implements, and an art apron, if you have one.
The banner created will be gifted to the women of Servicios Comunitarios de Pozo Ademado (Community Services of Pozo Ademado), also known as SECOPA. Your 200-peso donation supports the ongoing work of Caminos de Agua.
Caminos de Agua staff will be hand at Geek and Coffee from 2pm to 4pm to answer any questions. There will also be free activities for kids.
Caminos de Agua works to improve education about and access to safe drinking water in the San Miguel de Allende area.
Then, on March 23 from 9:30am–3:30pm, Caminos de Agua and Ser Mujer will collaborate for a daylong excursion. Participants will travel to the rural community of Pozos Ademado to see the work of women fighting for health in their community for over twenty years. Their alternative health and community center serves hundreds in the area. This group of women has also been pivotal in educating the surrounding rural communities on water issues and seeking solutions. Hear about their work and see the rainwater harvesting cisterns they are building to provide safe, healthy water for all, then join them in a home-cooked meal. Phone 154-6918 or email muriellogan@gmail.com to register or for more information. Your 500 pesos donation directly benefits SECOPA and Caminos de Agua.
