Jazz and Blues Festival “Blues Night” at Peralta

BLUES NIGHT CONCERT

By Antonio Lozoya

Next Saturday, March 24, the XXIV International Jazz and Blues Festival of San Miguel de Allende will present an extraordinary “Blues Night.”

Songs by the great blues composers such as Muddy Waters, Willie Dixon, and Little Walter and original songs by singer Freddie Maguire’s latest album will be featured. Maguire will be accompanied by the legendary drummer—and Maguire’s Italian compatriot—Vince Vallicelli.

Maguire was born in Florence to an Italian mother and an American father. Dividing his time between Florence and Philadelphia, his interest and love for music led him to study with great masters such as Anthony Sidney and Sabir Mateen. The expression and strength that characterizes his vocal performance and his scenic projection have led him to become one of the great contemporary singers of Italy. He has performed in France, the United States, London, Japan, and Mexico.

Vince Vallicelli is a legend in Italy, a drummer of indisputable talent and great experience. Having graduated in percussion at the Pesaro Conservatory, he has had numerous collaborations with artists such as Gianna Nannini, Eugenio Finardi, Shirley King (daughter of the incomparable BB King), Andy J. Forest, Rudy Rotta, Harriet Lewis, James Thompson, Sugar Blue (Rolling Stones, Frank Zappa), Lovie Lee (pianist of Muddy Waters), Carey Bell (harmonica player with Muddy Waters), Billy Gregory, and others.

On the guitar is the talented Jorge López, originally from Guadalajara, and on the bass is Antonio Lozoya, originally from Mexico City but now in San Miguel de Allende, graduated 22 years ago from the Superior School of Music with a specialty in Jazz.

Tickets are on sale at the Angela Peralta Theater box office and online through PayPal: sanmigueljazz.com.mx/tickets.html.
