Annual Garden Concert Brings Hotlanta Dixieland Jazz Band

By Mittie Roger

The spring season always welcomes one of our music-lovers’ favorite events of the year: the Garden Concert! Taking place in the spectacular gardens of a private home in Guadiana with covered seating,

bottomless champagne, and an array of delicious gourmet hors d’oeuvres will set the stage for vivacious entertainment provided by the Hotlanta six-piece Dixieland Jazz Band.

Hailing from Atlanta, this group performs jazz’s greatest hits and will conclude their concert by performing audience choices from a list of over 100 jazz standards. This fantastic event will take place on Sunday, March 18, at 4pm.

The first half of the concert will include songs by Hoagy Carmichael, Jelly Roll Morton, Sammy Lerner, Irving Caesar, Gerald Marks, and Irving Berlin, as well as some traditional gospel. Concertgoers will enjoy Harry Warren’s “Clementine from New Orleans,” Paul Barbarin’s “Bourbon Street Parade,” and Jimmy McHugh’s “DiggaDiggaDoo.” A delightful intermission filled with champagne and scrumptious treats will inspire the audience into a participatory (and celebratory) second half.

The Hotlanta Dixieland Jazz Band has performed throughout Asia, Europe, and the United States. Hotlanta’s instrumentation includes the clarinet, cornet, trombone, banjo/vocals, tuba, and drums, traditional for a jazz sextet. They regularly participate in New Orleans Mardi Gras parades and the Coastland Times praised them saying, “The six-man Hotlanta musical group made the rafters ring and the audience cheer. The group played and sang with enormous gusto that enchanted the foot-stomping audience.” Creative Loafing raved, “Hotlanta conveys the charm and power of the music…the music pulls the listener in with its infectious rhythms flights of improvisation, providing a glimpse of the excitement and creative energy of an earlier America.”

Don’t miss this incredibly special end to the Pro Musica season!

Tickets for the concert are 550 pesos donation each, including champagne and canapes, and are on sale through our website (with no booking fees), at Solutions on Recreo 11; the Bookshop in the Biblioteca Pública; La Conexión, only at Aldama 3; and at the concert venue, Calle Potranca 15, Col.
