A Grand Night for Singing!

ladies chorus 1

By Liz Stone

Friday, March 23 will be a grand night for the San Miguel Singers, who have shared their music and joy with San Miguel for over 15 years under the direction of Liz Stone. Her involvement in this group started with the idea that anyone who loved to sing should have a place to do it. The group has no auditions, is free except for the cost of the music, and provides a place to share in the joy of music and the satisfaction of making music of all kinds together. This spring we include old and new, religious and secular, funny and serious music from many parts of the world.

An addition this year is the talent of Karen O’Malia, who has sharpened our accuracy and tone and brought us some new music from her many years of music teaching and study.

Over the years it has been a great joy to include many Canadians and those from the United States who are here just for the winter months. They have often brought new music with them, and have expanded our size greatly. We especially like having tenors arrive, although all voice parts are welcome.

The concert will be March 23 at 5pm at St. Paul’s Church. Although the concert is free, we do ask a “free will” donation of any amount to benefit one of the many fine NGO’s here in San Miguel. This year we will support Mujeres en Cambio, which makes possible continuing education for girls from the Campo around San Miguel. The group now supports over 100 girls! In the past, we have supported such groups as ALMA, Jóvenes Adelante, and the School for the Deaf.
