Art Happening Is a Feast for All the Senses

By Mariosa, photo by Scott Umstattd

On March 3, the most diverse and expansive Art Happening to date will be held. This collaboration will provide participants an experience of art in many forms and the opportunity to become art. Tim Sullivan has created a wonder-filled folk art village to delight visitors with shape and colors: a guaranteed smile. This is Tim’s private property and you are invited to play in it.

Art comes in many forms, and ZUMO Restaurant will be providing fine dining in this fantasyland. ZUMO features global cuisine and presents seasonal menus featuring innovative, regional recipes and cooking styles from around the world. Chef Alex Zumo and owner Stewart Haverlack are creating a special menu for participants of the Art Happening to enjoy upon arrival. Wine pairing from around their worldwide collection will accompany each course. After your incredible dining experience, look over a collection of costumes available for loan or come dressed in your favorite look. Face painters will be on hand to help complete your fantasyland or futuristic look.

For inspiration, artist Chi Kaplan will be doing live painting. Kaplan is a wonderful showman with lots of experience painting live. He paints fast and free. He plans to paint a model that will match the wall of one of Ranchito’s building. He will also have art for sale.

DJ Ricardo del Castillo and friends will provide music to set the dining ambience and, later, some music for creative inspiration. There will be a specially created mojiganga (papier-mâché puppet) for us all to body paint, and a special surprise ending.

Photographer Scott Umstattd will be available to do a profession session with you for a special show fee. Check out his photo shoots  at
