The Foodies Film Festival

By Kristopher Kegel

During the second day of the “Food in Film Festival,” more fun and interesting films are scheduled to delight you. On Friday, February 23 at 12pm, the film Vatel will be shown. This film is all about food, drama, and romance, staring actor Gerard Depardieu and Uma Thurman. In 1671, Francois Vatel, a master chef, entertainer and steward is hired by the penniless but politically ambitious Prince de Conde.

Vatel is to prepare the important feast for the upcoming arrival of King Louis XIV. It is essential to please the king on this visit. The film depicts the extravagance in food and court entertainment.

After Vatel’s enormous efforts to feed the French court, Café Rama is taking up a similar challenge by treating all ticket holders to a botana-sized French classic dish, vol-au-vent. A glass of wine will be offered to conclude this French experience. Café Rama is located on Calle Nueva 7, at 3pm.

It is time for the lecture:

Taste–A Food and Dining Adventure by Eva Eliscu

Is eating an intelligent act, or is it merely an animal instinct? What would make it intelligent? Is it the company around the table? Your taste buds? Your mind? Is it your social and cultural background? Or is it your economic vitality? We can dig into these questions during this presentation.

The evening film at 5pm is Ratatouille, an animated comedy. This is a classic film from 2007 about a rat who loves to cook. He makes an unusual alliance with a young kitchen worker at a famous Paris restaurant. This is one of Delani Gianna Caravelli’s favorite movies, and her catering company, Hecho Con Amor, is very excited to sponsor this film. What will this very talented chef serve the ticket holders of this movie? You guessed it: a delicious ratatouille!

A to Z Wine Tours will offer a glass of wine and tell you about their upcoming events. Larry Mieux and A to Z wine tours offer an experience of taste and beauty.

Tickets to the Food in Film Festival are available online through, at Tesoros, inside La Biblioteca, and in Juan’s Café on Reloj 37. They are also available at the door of the Miguel Malo Auditorium inside Bellas Artes, home of the 2018 Food in Film Festival.
