Don’t Miss the Exquisite Gala Fundraiser for Education Outreach

By Michael Pearl, President, Pro Musica

Twenty seven excited young Mexican musicians of the Pro Musica Youth Orchestra begin rehearsals for Pro Musica’s annual Gala Fundraiser on Tuesday, February 6, just before our two performances of Mozart’s opera Don Giovanni at the Teatro Angela Peralta on February 9 and 11, Friday and Sunday. The Orchestra will be giving a short concert in the exquisite gardens of the magnificent mansion where the Gala takes place while you sip champagne and graze on canapés prior to being ushered into the splendid music salon for a candlelit feast.

These are not the only rehearsals going on, because the cast and crew of 32 for Don Giovanni have already been working to perfect their performances. Part of this preparation includes the songs and arias that the stars of the opera will sing at the Gala, accompanied by Maestro Mario Alberto Hernandez on the grand piano.

It is no exaggeration to say that at last year’s Gala there was not a dry eye among the audience after they witnessed the energetic enthusiasm of the Youth Orchestra at its first public performance. Since then the quality of the ensemble has been transformed beyond all recognition by the extraordinary talents of Director Tim Hazell, as well as higher quality instruments and more intensive rehearsals, all made possible by the proceeds of the Gala and generous donations.

After the concert we will enter the Music Salon to take our places for a splendid candle lit, waiter-served three course dinner with wines. The Gala climaxes with the stars of Don Giovanni singing many arias and songs after dinner, including duets. At the end of the evening [last year] no one wanted to leave as the event ended with the singers all performing together in a grand finale that brought the house down.

As you can judge from this, and those of you who attended in previous years already know, there is no event in San Miguel like it. From the magnificence of the setting, to the youthful exuberance of the orchestra, through the elegance and romance of a gourmet dinner and a triumphant ending with a cornucopia of world class singing, this will be a night to treasure which will be long talked about.

Most important, by savoring the joy of this magical night, you will be funding the Youth Orchestra for the year to come, and you can glow with pride for such a wonderful gift to our talented young musicians.

Space is strictly limited at the Gala, and I urge you to buy your tickets now. For a very special experience, we also offer a VIP Opera package, which includes a Gala ticket, an orchestra ticket for either performance of the opera with a reserved seat, champagne during an interval, and an invitation to the last night party after Sunday’s performance. Gala tickets, VIP Packages and individual tickets for both performances of Don Giovanni can be purchased online at the Pro Musica website: promusicasma.org or contact us at promusicasma@gmail.com.
